Manchester United rejects a loan offer from Borussia Dortmund for Jadon Sancho

According to reports, Manchester United rejected Borussia Dortmund’s loan offer for Jadon Sancho for the 2023-24 season.

The England international was one of the most sought-after players in 2020 and 2021, having contributed to 114 goals in 137 games for Borussia Dortmund.

Sancho was ultimately signed by Manchester United for €85 million (£73.1 million) despite interest from a number of European rivals, but he has struggled to adapt to life in England.

The former Manchester City academy product has only contributed 12 goals and six assists in 79 appearances for the Red Devils, and he was sidelined for several months due to physical and mental issues.

Sancho made 41 appearances for Erik ten Hag’s squad in all competitions last season, starting 21 Premier League games, including each of Manchester United’s final four victories as they secured a return to the Champions League.

Having failed to replicate the prolific form he displayed in Germany, Manchester United are reportedly open to selling Sancho this summer for the appropriate price.

The 23-year-old is still under contract with the Red Devils until 2026, with an option for an additional year, so they can afford to demand a substantial transfer fee.

According to the Daily Star, Dortmund recently reached out to Manchester United to propose a loan agreement for Jadon Sancho, but the 20-time English champions swiftly rejected the German giants’ proposal.

Despite the fact that Ten Hag appears to have lost patience with Sancho, the Red Devils reportedly have no interest in provisionally releasing the England international and will only consider permanent offers of at least £45 million.

Sancho frequently played on the left wing for Manchester United last season when Marcus Rashford was deployed up front, but Rashford will likely revert to a wide role if the Red Devils acquire a new number nine this summer.

Alejandro Garnacho has also become a key member of Ten Hag’s squad, while Antony – who played under Ten Hag at Ajax – is Manchester United’s right winger of choice.

Last month, it was believed that Tottenham Hotspur were considering a move for Jadon Sancho, but the Lilywhites instead completed a £40 million deal for James Maddison from Leicester City.

Both Aston Villa and Brighton & Hove Albion are rumored to be interested in the attacker, and both could offer him European football for the 2023-24 season.

While Dortmund’s attempt to bring Sancho back to the Westfalenstadion failed, Edin Terzic’s side are believed to have rekindled their interest in Anthony Elanga, a teammate of Sancho at Manchester United.

Hannibal Mejbri has also been linked with a move to BVB, but the Tunisian will be given the opportunity to impress Ten Hag during preseason after a successful loan stint with Birmingham City.
