In recent weeks, Pep Guardiola has overseen moments of difficulty for Manchester City.

Chris Sutton compared Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola to a “crazy professor,” claiming the Spaniard made a series of puzzling moves in the past week. Kevin De Bruyne was left on the bench for Manchester City’s 1-0 loss to Tottenham over the weekend, which prevented them from closing the gap on Arsenal to two points. Many fans are also perplexed by the decision to allow Joao Cancelo to join Bayern Munich without finding a replacement.

City have been the club to beat in the Premier League for the past five seasons, capturing four trophies under Guardiola’s guidance. However, they have been unable to repeat that level of play this season, losing three of their past six games in all competitions and falling five points behind Arsenal in the battle for the championship.

Guardiola has been criticized as a result of his constant efforts to identify the optimal strategy. Cancelo was the first star player to be replaced by a younger player, paving the way for his exit to the Bundesliga. The often talismanic De Bruyne has been sidelined on occasion, including Sunday’s loss in north London.

Sutton is among many who have suggested that Guardiola’s decision-making has begun to resemble that of a “crazed professor.”

The former Chelsea and Celtic striker wrote in his column for the Daily Mail, “Pep Guardiola is trying very hard to appear as the mad professor with the decisions he’s making, and they’re not doing Manchester City much good.” “His side lacks the aura of superiority that we’ve observed in the past from them.” Are you loaning Joao Cancelo to Bayern Munich? Madness. Dropping Kevin De Bruyne for a game that must be won in order to get within two points of Arsenal? Madness. Requesting that 18-year-old Rico Lewis continually receive the ball on the half-turn while Tottenham’s pressers hover like vultures? Madness.”

“What occurred in the past is of no consequence. Despite our sadness, we must attempt to do the task immediately. Tomorrow, we will watch the game, ponder, and then consider Aston Villa with our workers and fans; this will be difficult. It will be a lengthy season for everyone, and we will continue to play.”
