TMW reports that Manchester United is interested in acquiring Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.
The Italian publication acknowledges that United’s pursuit of the Morocco number one seems ‘crazy’ in light of their recent signing of Andre Onana, but insists that the Red Devils are interested.
According to the claim, the management of the Red Devils intends to replace the now-former Inter goalkeeper with another player of great experience and international caliber.
“According to what our editorial team has learned, the target in this sense is Yassine Bounou.”
Manchester United is well aware of Bounou’s talent, as the goalkeeper excelled in victories over the club in the Europa League in 2021 and 2023. On the back of his clothing is the name ‘Bono’.
Marko Dmitrovic challenged him for playing time at Sevilla last year, and his position as the team’s starting goalkeeper is not assured.
The TMW report that the transfer is ‘difficult but not impossible’ and depends on whether Bounou is willing to serve as Onana’s backup.
Ten Hag wants three dependable goalkeepers
Erik ten Hag insisted on having three goalkeepers available in case of injury or suspension during the course of the season.
Last season, he had David de Gea, Martin Dubravka, and Tom Heaton, with Jack Butland replacing Dubravka in the middle of the season after being recalled.
From this squad, only Heaton remains. Last month, The Telegraph reported he was linked to Luton.
A transfer for Bounou would be intriguing if he is content to play the role of second-stringer. However, if that is his function at Sevilla, an upgrade to Old Trafford may be tempting.
