According to Saudi state television Al Ekhbariya, Riyad Mahrez is Al-Ahli’s most recent signing, but no further information is provided.

RIYADH, 21 JULY Riyad Mahrez, an Algerian forward for Manchester City, has concluded a transfer to Al-Ahli, Saudi state-run Al Ekhbariya TV reported early this morning.

Al Ekhbariya announced on Twitter that Mahrez has joined Al-Ahli, but did not provide additional information. The club based in Jeddah has not yet made an official announcement.

Mahrez scored 78 goals and dished out 59 assists in 236 appearances across all competitions for City, and the club won 11 trophies, including five league titles, after his 2018 transfer from Leicester City.

The 32-year-old scored 15 goals in 47 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s squad last season, but did not appear in the FA Cup and Champions League finals as City won a historic treble.

He renewed his contract through 2025 last year.

Mahrez is the latest star player to join the Saudi Pro League, which has become an attractive destination for European players since Cristiano Ronaldo’s transfer to Al Nassr in January of last year.

Al-Ahli, who won promotion to the Pro League after one season in the second division, have also signed Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino on a free transfer and Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy on a three-year contract.

The Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) unveiled a Sports Clubs Investment and Privatization Project involving Al-Ittihad, Al-Ahli, Al-Nassr, and Al-Hilal last month. ― Reuters
