“Magical moment” for Harry Kane as he becomes Tottenham Hotspur’s career goalscoring leader.

After signing his name into the Spurs record books on Sunday evening, England captain Harry Kane was practically speechless.

Harry Kane described it as “a fantastic sensation” after he became Tottenham Hotspur’s all-time leading scorer.

Sunday’s hard-earned victory against Premier League winners Manchester City was the ideal time for the 29-year-old to surpass the 266 goals scored by Spurs legend Jimmy Greaves. The 29-year-old scored the game’s sole goal to surpass Greaves’ total.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg had just passed the quarter-hour mark when he stole possession just outside the City penalty area, found Harry Kane, and allowed the England captain to stroke the ball past City goalkeeper Ederson, earning the acclaim of the Spurs faithful after writing his name into the club’s annals.

“It’s difficult to describe,” Kane told Sky Sports after the game.

“It’s just a magical moment and I was so desperate to do it with a win. I wanted to win so badly. Once we went 1-0 up there, keeping a clean sheet and to do it in front of the home fans was a moment I’ll never forget.

“ I think especially being here at home in front of the fans, there has been so much talk about it over the last couple of weeks, I just wanted to get it done as soon as possible. To do it in a big game against one of the best teams in the world, it’s a special feeling.”

Kane’s record-breaking goal was also his 200th Premier League goal, following in the footsteps of Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney as only the third player to reach that milestone.

Since scoring his first Premier League goal in April 2014 against Sunderland in a 5-1 home victory, the England captain has become one of the league’s most feared strikers.

The Spurs star characterized attaining the milestone as “fantastic” and emphasized his desire to continue scoring frequently for the rest of his career.

“It’s a great feeling. When I started playing regularly eight or nine years ago now, it was never in my imagination to scored 200 Premier League goals. To be there now is exciting and I’ve got a few years left so hopefully there’s more to come.”
