Machogu to Appear Before The Senate On Wednesday
On Wednesday, only Ezekiel Machogu, cabinet secretary for education, will testify before the Senate.
Senators George Mbugua, Joyce Korir, Mariam Omar Peris Tobiko, and Samson Cherargei (Nandi) have been nominated to ask questions, and Machogu will respond.
Cherargei requests that the CS inform the teachers’ SACCOS, the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet), and the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) of the entire amount owed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to these organisations.
The CS is expected to provide an explanation for TSC’s decision to postpone the payment of teachers’ union and SACCO dues.
The Nandi senator has additionally urged Machogu to specify the most recent time that senior TSC officers, including the CEO, were subjected to a lifestyle audit.
He requests that the government inform the House if and when it intends to carry out more lifestyle audits of senior TSC personnel.
Cheragei also requests an update from the CS on the progress of the delocalization initiative, which involves moving teachers from their hometowns to other areas.
He has requested Machogu to explain why TSC took so long to reverse its delocalization policy after promising to do so in January 2023.

Omar will want to hear if the CS is aware that some public schools forbid Muslim pupils from donning a hijab and wearing trousers.
She has requested an explanation from the CS as to why some students continue to face discrimination in spite of the Constitution’s explicit clause in Article 32(4) that reads, “A person shall not be compelled to act, or engage in any act, that is contrary to the person’s belief or religion.”
Korir wants the CS to explain why it has taken so long to evaluate the 2013 Basic Education Act and bring it into compliance with both the Constitution and the UNCRPD.
In order to inform the House of the progress being made in implementing the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), particularly in junior secondary schools, Tobiko has ordered Machogu to report to her.
