Machogu Sends Message to HELB Applicants without IDs
Several thousand students from the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education class of 2022 who haven’t yet signed up for university financial assistance have 11 days left to do so. The enrollment period started on July 31 and will conclude on September 7.
As of August 22, a total of 65,528 applications were submitted by university and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students, according to Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu.
Machogu noted that the ministry has introduced a public relations strategy to educate and inform students about the new funding model. The aim is to motivate 140,107 students accepted into university programs and 145,060 potential TVET students to submit their funding requests.

Communication, information, and educational materials will be shared through barazas as part of this approach.
Furthermore, students lacking national identification cards can apply for financial aid using their index numbers and birth certificates. However, due to legal restrictions preventing minors from entering into contracts, education loans for these individuals will only be granted upon presentation of their identification cards.
Machogu explained that, historically, these students usually receive their identification cards within their first year of study.
