Machogu launches varsity scholarships, loans portal, explains which candidates will benefit
Out of the 2022 KCSE graduates, the government would totally pay over 45,000 university students and 42,000 TVET students who are designated as vulnerable and highly poor.
According to Machogu, these students would not be required to pay anything towards the cost of the programme and will also receive maintenance from the loan.
For the first time, students from low-income families will have equal access to university and TVET education because to 100 percent government funding, according to Machogu.

The student’s level of financial need will be ascertained using the Instrument to make sure they are sufficiently supported.
Continuing students won’t be impacted by the funding model, he noted, and would continue to receive their funds in accordance with the current methodology used by the government.
To ensure that letters of admission are distributed by August 2, 2023, he instructed Vice-Chancellors and Principals.

He stated that from August 3, 2023, to midnight on August 27, 2023, students will be able to submit applications for loans and bursaries.
Since most universities are getting ready to welcome first-year students in September, Machogu urged students to make sure they adhere to the established schedules to ensure quick processing of scholarships and loans.
