Liverpool is seeking an elite defensive midfielder after acquiring two creative, attack-minded midfielders during the summer transfer window.

The Reds have been linked with Sofyan Amrabat, a Moroccan international, for quite some time, but recent reports indicate that Manchester United have moved ahead.

We reported last month via Corriere dello Sport that Liverpool are willing to meet Fiorentina’s asking price of 30 million euros (£26 million) in order to sign the African playmaker.

However, it appears that the player would prefer to rejoin his former manager at Old Trafford.

According to a report in today’s La Gazzetta Dello Sport (news image provided below), Manchester United have reached an agreement with Amrabat’s representatives to acquire him.

The Viola are still seeking £26 million for the holding midfielder, but Manchester United have not yet made an offer.

The renowned Italian news source has made it clear that the Serie A club is prepared to offload the 26-year-old, who desires to depart, and are targeting the signing of Sassuolo’s Maxime Lopez.

At Anfield, Klopp is attempting to sign the unproven Belgian playmaker Romeo Lavia, who is valued at approximately £50 million.

Sofyan Amrabat was the finest defensive midfielder at last year’s FIFA World Cup, and he is available for nearly half of what Southampton paid for Lavia.
