List of TSC Allowance Paid to Teachers Per Grade and Scale

The allowances provided by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for educators can be categorized into two groups: remunerative and reimbursable.

Remunerative allowances are those that are included in a teacher’s regular salary, while reimbursable allowances are refunded upon request.

i) Remunerative allowances can be further classified into two types:

1. Automatic allowances, which encompass:

– House allowances

– Medical allowances

– Commuter allowances

– Hardship allowances

– Leave Allowance for Teachers

The TSC house allowance, the most common, is paid monthly and is determined by the teacher’s employment grade and workstation. Higher job grades receive larger house allowances. Monthly hardship allowances are given to teachers working in regions with security risks and harsh climates.

Commuter allowances are also paid monthly based on the teacher’s work location, and annual leave allowances vary slightly based on benefits and grade.

2. Paid-on-application allowances:

– Responsibility allowance for school heads

– Special duty allowance for teachers in administrative roles in arid areas

– Readers allowance for visually impaired teachers with qualified readers

– Interpreters allowance for deaf teachers on study leave

– Special school allowance for special needs education specialists

– Transfer allowance for teachers relocated by the Commission

ii) Reimbursable expenses are costs that the Commission repays to teachers, including:

– Travel expenses reimbursed under specific circumstances such as interdiction revocation, interview attendance, first posting outside the home district, retirement travel from a duty station outside the home district, and travel to and from home for teachers in hardship areas during school holidays, provided their home district is outside the hardship area. Teachers need to apply using prescribed forms and provide supporting documents.

– Quota per diem, a daily subsistence allowance for teachers on official assignments, with applications required at least 14 days before travel.
