D-&E government Sponsored Course. The government of Kenya established a body that is responsible for the placement of candidates to universities, that’s the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
The body places students to various universities depending on how they performed in their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education ( KCSE).
All the students who scored a mean grade of C+ and above are eligible to apply for undergraduate degree programs while those with C plain and C minus are eligible to apply for diploma courses in various colleges and universities.
Those who manage D+ and D plain are given a chance to apply for certificate courses while those with D- and E are eligible to apply for artisan courses.
KUCCPS Revises List of KCSE Candidates eligible for Degree courses
All those candidates placed in various universities by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) are eligible for the government funding and they can apply for the Higher Education Loans through the HELB portal.

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) categorizes the course into various clusters which include: Business; Building and Construction; Engineering and Technology; Food Science; Social Sciences; Applied Sciences; Information Technology; Hospitality, Hotel and Tourism; Clothing, Fashion and Textile; Agricultural Sciences; Natural Sciences; Technical Courses; Hair Dressing and Beauty Therapy; and Library and Information Sciences.
Artisan Courses
Under the artisan courses, we have the store keeping, secretarial, office assistant in four levels and supply chain management.
Building and construction
The courses offered under building and construction by the KUCCPS include;
- Building technology with two options
- Building construction technology
- Masonry with 3 options
- Trade test masonry
- Masonry level four
- Grade 3 in masonry
Engineering and Technology;
The Engineering and Technology programme, we also have a number of courses which include;
- Electrical installation with 5 options
- Installation and electrical wire man
- Electrical installation level four
- Electrical and electronic technology
- Electrical installation level three
- Automotive engineering with 2 options
- Motor vehicle mechanics
- Electrical engineering
- Mechanical engineering
- Grade three electrical wire man
- Electrical wire man with three options
Food Science
Those students who are passionate in food science can take the following courses offered by KUCCPS;
- Craft in food and beverage
- Food and beverage production sales and service.
- Food and beverage production
- Service and sales
- Food and beverage ( 2 options)
- Food and beverage production and services with two options.
Following the 2023 KUCCPS Revised list, courses are not offered in the following clusters;
- Social science
- Applied Sciences;
- Hospitality
- Hotel and Tourism
- Natural sciences
Only one artisan course that is offered under the Information Technology cluster by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).

Under the Fashion and textile cluster, KUCCPS offers these courses;
- Fashion design and garment making
- Design and garment making technology
- Fashion and design
- Garment making ( 3 options)

- Dressmaking and tailoring
- Trade test 3 in dress making
- Trade test 3 in tailoring
- Trade test 3 in garment making
The artisan courses are also available in agriculture cluster, they include certificate in general agriculture and Agribusiness.

Hairdressing and Beauty therapy – D-&E government Sponsored Course
The placement body also offers these courses under the hair dressing and beauty therapy;
- Grade three in hairdressing and Beauty Therapy;
- Grade test three in hairdressing and Beauty therapy
- Grade 3 hairdressing
- Grade 3 hair and beauty therapy
- Grade 3 hairdressing and Beauty therapy with 3 options.
