List and Cost Of 5 KUCCPS Accredited Universities To Offer Architecture Degree
Only five Universities were given approval by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) to provide the Bachelor of Architectural Studies, reflecting the government’s desire to streamline the construction industry and only create fully qualified architects.
The website, which went live on Wednesday, May 17, stated that KCSE exam students could only enroll in the Bachelor of Architecture program at Kenyatta University (KU) or Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
The Technical University of Mombasa (TUM), the Technical University of Kenya (TUK), formerly known as Kenya Polytechnic, and other institutions of higher education that have been recognized to provide the degree include the University of Nairobi (UoN), TUK, and TUM.
Charges
The Bachelor of Architecture program offered by JKUAT will be the most expensive, costing Ksh367,200 every academic year, according to information in the KUCCPS website.
Kenyatta University charges Ksh306,000 for the course, compared to Ksh347,650 at the University of Nairobi.
At the Technical University of Kenya and TUM, bachelor’s degrees in architecture cost Ksh288,000 and Ksh275,400, respectively.
Students would be chosen based on how well they performed in the subjects of mathematics, English, kiswahili, and physics. Depending on the choices of the universities, other disciplines might be added.
The cluster points used in the university selection process would depend on the subject choice. The cutoff points in 2021 ranged from 39 to 43 points.
The art and science of designing buildings and other structures would be taught to students who pursue architecture. Sketching, envisioning, planning, designing, and building buildings or other structures would all be part of it.
Fully qualified architects are required to develop market-relevant capabilities as the building industry changes, and the chosen colleges are established to provide these talents to the students.
Career Opportunities
Architect, Senior Architect, Project Architect, Design Architect, and Urban Planner are a few professional options in the area.
Landscape architects, interior designers, construction managers, project managers, and quantity surveyors are other professions connected to the course.
Competitive pay for professionals in the field range from Ksh70,000 to Ksh120,000 per month.
How to Pay for Courses
President William Ruto stated that government loans, scholarships, and bursaries would be used to pay for students in order to address the funding crisis.
According to the plan, government scholarships up to 38% of the cost of the program and loans for the other 55% would be used to pay for less needy students who enroll in university.
Parents will be required to only should 7 percent of the total fees.
People who enroll in Technical and Vocational Education and Training Colleges (TVETS) will receive 32% in government scholarships, 48% in loans, and 20% of the cost will be covered by their families.
