Lance Reddick, a well-known actor who played Cedric Daniels on “The Wire” and starred in the “John Wick” franchise, has passed away at the age of 60. According to his representative, Mia Hansen, Reddick died on Friday morning due to natural causes. He will be greatly missed by his colleagues and fans alike.
Reddick had a captivating presence that made him ideal for intense roles requiring gravitas. His acting career began in the 1990s with shows such as “New York Undercover” and “The West Wing.” Although he intended to become a musician as a teenager, he turned to acting as a means of supporting his young family and paving the way for a music career.
Reddick started performing in regional theatre and eventually applied and was accepted to study drama at Yale University at age 29. After graduation, he landed his first regular role on HBO’s “Oz,” where he played an undercover detective posing as an inmate. His breakout role came when he was cast as Narcotics Unit Lt. Daniels on “The Wire,” a critically acclaimed show that received high praise from critics and the industry.
After “The Wire,” Reddick landed roles on other hit TV shows such as “Lost,” “Fringe,” and “Bosch.” He also worked on movies, including the “John Wick” franchise and “Godzilla vs. Kong.” Reddick had a constant presence in the “Destiny” video game series, voicing Commander Zavala since 2014.
