KUPPET Wants TSC To Compensate Teachers Assaulted By Violent Students

The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) wants members to be compensated each time they are assaulted by violent students.

Kuppet remarked that there are rising incidents of teachers who sustain injuries while on duty.

According to Kuppet, other professions get compensated when encountering damages while on duty and therefore the Teachers Service Commission should take care of teachers welfare in the workplace including against aggression by students.

This comes in the wake of brutal attacks on teachers and non-teaching staffs in parts of Kenya by learners. Kuppet maintains that crimes need to be taken seriously to protect teachers.

“As a union leadership, we condemn the unbecoming culture that tends to scuttle the education in the country. Going by recent reports that have hit headlines on students attacking their teachers and leaving them with serious injuries, the government should compensate and offer protections against insecurity eventualities while working within the school compound,” stated Milemba.

Mr Milemba urged TSC to provide security to teachers in some areas deemed insecure.
