KUPPET opposed to the intended review of the NHIF Act, says it disadvantages teachers.

The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has downplayed the intended review of the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) act.

Led by Secretary-General Akelo Misori and national chair Omboko Milemba, KUPPET argued that it will be wrong for any changes to happen on the NHIF act without the input of teachers yet they are the greatest contributors to the fund.

The union leadership instead are pushing for the formation of two separate boards to manage the NHIF warning that further plans to transform NHIF from a fund to a scheme may work to a greater disadvantage of teachers and other workers.

“In the underground review of the national hospital insuarance fund notwithstanding their separate health insurance schemes teachers are the bedrock of NHIF funding.

“KUPPET will recommend the creation of two separate strategic boards to manage the NHIF. One board would manage the fund to enroll contributory workers while other would be responsible for intelligent,

indigenous, vulnerable and other groups.” said Secretary-General Akelo Misori.
