KUCCPS Opens Portal for Open University of Kenya Applications
The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has made an announcement regarding applications for enrollment at the Open University of Kenya (OUK). The enrollment process is scheduled to commence on August 28.
CEO of KUCCPS, Mercy Wahome, revealed the opening of the application portal for individuals who are interested in joining OUK. According to KUCCPS, the tuition fee for undergraduate degree programs at OUK stands at Ksh105,000. However, the Bachelor of Technology Education program incurs an annual cost of Ksh115,000 for full-time study.
For postgraduate diploma programs, the cost is set at Ksh110,000 for a single academic year. Wahome further clarified that the stated annual tuition fee incorporates a 15% discount, which the Government negotiated with universities under the new higher education funding model.
At OUK, students have the option to pay for and pursue individual course units. This is available at a rate of Ksh10,000 per unit. This option is open to students pursuing both Bachelor’s degree and postgraduate diploma programs offered at the university.
International students from outside East Africa are subject to an additional fee of 10% for all programs or individual course units.

KUCCPS has delineated the minimum entry requirements for Bachelor’s degree programs. These requirements include a mean grade of C+ and above in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent.
Other qualifications, such as diplomas, professional certifications, KCSE certificates or their equivalents, as well as foundation or bridging course certificates, are also taken into consideration.
Candidates who possess a Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education with specific grade criteria or a recognized bachelor’s degree are eligible to apply.
Wahome emphasized that the applications submitted through the KUCCPS portal will be free of charge and without any specified deadline. This application fee waiver is attributed to the unique learning approach of the Open University and its adaptable modular program design, which allows students to learn at their own pace and convenience.
Additionally, Wahome highlighted that applicants for Bachelor’s degree programs are eligible for government scholarships and loans in accordance with the new funding model criteria.
Applicants who have taken the KCSE examinations from 1989 to the present are eligible to apply directly through the KUCCPS portal. For those with international or non-KCSE qualifications, both the placement agency and OUK are set to assist with the submission of application documents.
