The Secretary General of the Kenya National Union of Teachers, Collins Oyuu, found himself involved in a road accident in Kisumu County on a Monday morning. The incident transpired near Kombewa along the Bondo-Kisumu route, where Oyuu’s vehicle veered off the road and rolled multiple times. It was reported that the accident occurred while he was attempting to avoid a collision with a cyclist.
Nyanza Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer, Allan Mwangi, disclosed that the car overturned during the evasive maneuver, resulting in an injury to the cyclist, while Oyuu miraculously escaped unharmed.
Following the accident, Oyuu was promptly rushed to a hospital in Kisumu, where he is currently receiving medical treatment. Although he is now out of immediate danger, medical professionals are vigilantly monitoring his condition.
During an interview with The Standard at the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu, where he is undergoing treatment, Oyuu expressed his shock at the incident. He credited his survival to the seatbelt he had wisely fastened, which prevented him from being ejected from the vehicle.
The exact cause of the accident, which transpired along the Bondo-Kisumu road, remains uncertain. Consequently, the local law enforcement authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident.
