Collins Oyuu, the Secretary-General of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), issued a stern warning to teachers during the annual general meeting for the Kerugoya branch. He cautioned them against engaging in sexual relationships and emphasized the importance of pursuing relationships with adult women while leaving children alone.

Oyuu stressed that teachers, akin to fathers and mothers, should not engage in inappropriate relationships with young students, whom they are entrusted to protect. He expressed concern that some teachers were exploiting their positions and harming young girls, urging them to cease this behavior.

Furthermore, Oyuu emphasized that schoolgirls should be regarded as learners rather than potential wives or girlfriends, emphasizing the need for respectful treatment.

He considered it shameful for teachers to face disciplinary action for cases involving defilement or the molestation of the very students they are supposed to safeguard.

In a resolute stance, the KNUT Secretary-General asserted that the union would not shield teachers accused of such misconduct, making it clear that individuals involved in such cases would receive no support from the union.
