KNUT Issues Statement on TSC Interdicted Teachers

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has taken a strong stance against the troubling issue of sexual abuse within schools. KNUT Secretary General, Collins Oyuu, delivered a firm message during the Kirinyaga KNUT branch’s AGM.

He emphasized that the union would not offer any form of defense or support to teachers found guilty of sexually abusing students, firmly asserting that these individuals should not be allowed to continue their teaching careers and must face legal consequences.

Oyuu urged KNUT branch officials and executive members to remain vigilant in detecting and addressing any instances of teachers violating the rights of the children under their care, reinforcing the importance of safeguarding students

In addition to addressing the issue of sexual abuse, Oyuu turned his attention to the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC). He warned against any delays in the payment of invigilators and supervisors involved in the upcoming national examinations.

Oyuu made it clear that the union would consider taking industrial action if the council failed to promptly disburse allowances to these examiners.

He pointed out previous instances where the council had failed to meet its commitments, causing significant delays in teacher payments for several months. Oyuu urged KNEC to take proactive measures to ensure that examiners receive their compensation promptly and without any unnecessary delays following the conclusion of the examinations, underscoring the importance of fair and timely remuneration for educators involved in the examination process.
