KNEC Resolves To Adopt New Exam Papers Distribution To Arrest Exam Cheating

KNEC Alters Examination Distribution Model

In order to curb exam malpractice in Kenya, the government has adopted a new model of distributing these papers.

In a meeting chaired by the Education Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Machogu at Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) it was resolved that there is need to change the way the exams are distributed and admistered.

As opposed to the previous method of distribution where school heads will pick papers for the whole day in the morning, now it has been changed in that school heads will only pick a single subject per session.

Upon returning the papers that have been done, they also pick the other paper that is to be done on that day. This will minimize the cheating levels.

The government has vowed to work round the clock in implementing the new model of distribution that will see exam malpractice degenerate with time.

Caution To Education Officials

The Education CS, Ezekiel Machogu cautioned the education officials on providing false information to the public without prior consultation with relevant authorities.

Among those who graced this meeting were the KNEC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Njengere, County Directors of Education, Permanent secretary for Basic Education, Belio Kipsang and other education stakeholders.

As part of the resolution, it was noted that the distribution of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) will not be altered and therefore they will just pick their papers for the whole day in the morning.

The meeting also resolved on mapping out examination centres so that each centre will pick its exams from the nearest container to minimize chances of exams leaking.

Machogu and the Education Officials faced the Parliamentary Education committee in responding to allegation of cheating leveled against them.

The issue of early exposure that dominated the meeting was handled by the CS terming it as unauthorized access to the examination papers before the commencement of the exam in the scheduled time.

This exposure is what leads to sharing of these papers on social media with some selling them to those in need.

Machogu further described leakage as receiving examination papers prior to the actual paper which pose an undue advantage to those who gets access.

The CS went further to dismiss claims of examination leakage in certain counties saying the schools portrayed a high level of integrity and the results posted were a true reflection of the school.

The major aim of altering the distribution model was to preserve examination integrity hence preventing cheating and leaks to enhance fairness among the candidates.
