KNEC Issues New Payment Rates for Contracted Professionals
In 2023, the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has introduced new payment procedures for teachers registered with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). They are strongly encouraged to register on the Contracted Professionals platform, commonly known as CP2.
This platform, managed by KNEC, is instrumental in deploying contracted professionals, such as teachers, security guards, and drivers, during national examinations.
For this year’s examinations, nursery, primary, and secondary school teachers will play a crucial role. By providing their information on CP2, KNEC can efficiently deploy and compensate these teachers once the exams are completed and the results are publicly disclosed.
KNEC has confirmed the readiness for administering national exams to approximately 2.3 million students taking the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams this year. Specifically, the KCPE exam will involve about 1,415,315 candidates, while the KCSE exam will have another 903,260 candidates.
Furthermore, KNEC Chief Executive David Njengere has announced the commencement of preparations for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) for 1,282,574 Grade Six students.

In addition to payment adjustments, KNEC has proposed enhanced security measures to curb cheating during this year’s national exams. Notably, examiners will no longer receive all examination papers in the morning; instead, center managers, often school principals, will only select the morning papers.
KNEC has also expanded its examination storage facilities by acquiring more containers, which will expedite the process of paper selection and distribution.
These measures represent some of the changes to be implemented in national exams within the next month. Specifically, candidates will return their morning papers to the container after completion, and the afternoon papers will then be distributed.
