KNEC CEO David Njengere Named President of Africa’s AEAA
David Njengere, the CEO of the Kenya National Examination Council (Knec), has been appointed as the president of the Association for Educational Assessment in Africa (AEAA).
He takes over from Patrick Areghan, who is also the CEO of the West African Examinations Council in Nigeria, for a duration of one year. Dr. Njengere officially assumed the presidency at the conclusion of the 39th annual AEAA conference held on Friday.
Having previously served as the vice president of the Association for Educational Assessment in Africa, Dr. Njengere now assumes the role of president.
He also held the position of vice president within the AEAA and served as an advisor to the cabinet secretary of the Ministry of Education. In this capacity, he provided expertise on curriculum reforms and strategies for their effective implementation.
In his early career, Dr. Njengere worked as an English teacher from 1990 to 1999 at various secondary schools. He later progressed to become the first director of the speech communication disorders section at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD).

He subsequently held positions at Knec, coordinating the development of teacher education and special needs examinations.
Dr. Njengere earned his Bachelor of Education in English and Literature as well as a Master of Philosophy in English from Moi University. He obtained his doctorate in education from the same university in 2015. He was also awarded a Hubert H. Humphrey fellowship in Education Policy and Planning, curriculum, and Research.
The 39th AEAA conference, themed “Educational Assessment for Nurturing Every Learner’s Potential,” was organized by the Kenya National Examination Council and various sponsors.
The 40th AEAA Annual Conference is scheduled to take place from August 19–23, 2024, in Cape Town, South Africa, with the theme “Reimagining Educational Assessment in the Age of Multiple Dimensions of Learning in a Global Society.”
