KNEC Announces Examination Date For CBA

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has announced the examination dates for Competency-Based Assessments (CBA) in Grades 3, 4, 5, and 7, scheduled for October 2023.

Previously, students completed their projects and practicals between June 6th and August 10th. Now, the assessments, facilitated by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), are set to commence on October 2, 2023.

During these assessments, teachers will evaluate students’ performance through practical tasks, scoring them based on provided guidelines. Any assessment tools requiring color images should be printed in color and uploaded to the digital platforms available in schools, if applicable.

Since the introduction of the competency-based curriculum, tests have become a component of formative assessments within the education system. These assessment tools are made available for schools to download and employ with their students.

In an effort to reduce printing costs, KNEC has introduced two options for accessing assessment tools. These tools will be accessible online in both PDF and digital formats.

For Grade 3, subjects with written exams include Mathematics and English, with tests scheduled to begin on October 2, 2023.

Grade 4 students will be tested in several subjects, including Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, Agriculture, Social Studies, Home Science, Art and Craft, CRE/IRE/HRE, Science and Technology, and Kenyan Sign Language. The tests for Grade 4 will run from October 2nd to October 26th, 2023.
