KNEC Announces Dates For Grades 3 to 7 CBC Assessment

First off, the Ministry of Education (MoE) has informed teachers and parents that exam materials for grades 3, 4, and 5 are available on its portal in a circular dated April 21.

The circular additionally stated that the grade 3 exam materials would be accessible for download on the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) website as of June 5, 2023.

The deadline for the headteachers to download, administer, and re-upload the exam results to KNEC is August 11, 2023, according to the Circular.

The grade 3 tools for the Kenya Early Years Assessment (KEYA) and the Kenya Foundation Level Education Assessment (KFLEA), which are designed for students with special needs, are among the documents that must be uploaded.

The circular also notes that several forms, including Portable Document Format (PDF) and digital Format, would be available via the site for the School Based Assessment (SBA) tools for grades 4, 5, and 6.

Accessing the Tools

Headteachers must sign into the CBA portal at http://www.cba.knec.ac.ke using their usernames and passwords.

A portion of the message read, “Any school that will have any password challenges should contact their respective Sub-County Directors of Education for resetting the password.”

The grade 5 and grade 6 examination materials will be made available beginning July 10, 2023, and heads will be required to upload results by August 11, 2023, according to KNEC’s subsequent announcement.

However, the examiner expects the Sub-County Directors, principals of elementary schools, and heads of special schools to administer the assessment tools, grade the students, and upload the results to the CBA site.

The circular further instructed schools to log onto the Portal using their usernames and passwords in order to view and download the evaluation tools in PDF format.

Then, either in print, projected on a screen, or written on the board, the learners will receive the tools. According to the format chosen, students may write their answers on the question paper or on the writing supplies the school has given,” the letter added.

Learners must log into the Portal with their assessment numbers if you are using the digital format.

“Learners will be required to respond to writing prompts that the school will supply. The CBA portal will use distinct buttons to display the two forms of the assessment tools.

Use of the Digital Learning Program (DLP) is crucial

Schools are urged to let students use the tools through the Digital Learning Program (DLP) so they can save paying for printing.

The PDF format will be used by individuals who cannot access the tools through DLP.

KNEC also stated that teachers will have access to Foundation Level materials in PDF format.

The teachers will evaluate the students as they complete the Performance-Based assignments and score them appropriately using the instructions supplied in the tools.

You can find step-by-step instructions for using the tools, scoring guides, and other information at the CBA portal. You can also upload your results there.

The circular further specifies that students should utilize a different answer sheet to submit their answers to any colored assessment tools, which should be printed in color or accessed via digital devices.

Since the records and evidence gathered from the assessments would be needed in the future for use, KNEC has urged the school heads to maintain them.
