Kisumu Boys School alumni to take legal action against County Government if it demolishes the school

Former students of Kisumu Boys High School have threatened legal action against the Kisumu County Government if it demolishes the institution as planned.

The Old Boys Association chairman James Mwamu stated that the exercise should be shelved indefinitely. This is after the county government announced that the school will be demolished to pave way for its urban renewal programme that is being pushed by Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o.

The school which occupies 105 acres of land will be relocated from the central business district (CBD) to reclaimed land in the Mamboleo area according to acting City Manager Abala Wanga. Kisumu Girls High School could also be affected.

“Although a school provides social services, it gives the city very little returns. Hence it can be moved to cheaper land outside the CBD so long as there are proper roads,” he said.

According to Kisumu County Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o, the move would be good as the schools will have a more conducive learning atmosphere, away from the noisy town centre.

The institution is attributed to having produced a chain of leaders in all fields. Kisumu East MP Shakeel Shabbir, Kisumu West counterpart Olago Aluoch, Former Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma and Kwame Owino, among others.
