Keveye Girls Board reject new principal Over Poor Performance
Following allegations of subpar performance, a principal posted to Friends School Keveye Girls in Vihiga County has been prevented from taking over a second time.
Christine Sifuna was to be replaced by Violet Oyungu, who was relocated by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) from Nyakach Girls High School in Kisumu County to Keveye Girls.
On May 11, Ms. Sifuna was transferred in the same position to Cardinal Otunga Girls High School in Bungoma.
The Keveye Girls Board of Management, who also accused Ms. Uyungu of being conceited and ruling with an iron hand, was unable to permit her to enter the school.

This was Uyungu’s second rejection by the Keveye Girls, local authorities, and the neighborhood. The management committee successfully stopped TSC from transferring her to the school in 2015. The entire board quit after TSC requested that she take over at Keveye.
“With effect from May 12, 2023, it has been determined that you (Christine Sifuna) would move from Keveye Girls Secondary School to Cardinal Otunga Secondary School as the principal and to teach History and CRE. Oyungu Violet Ambiyo will take over management of the institution from you, according to the TSC letter approving the changes.
An someone by the name of Lilian Mwangi wrote the letter on Nancy Macharia’s behalf, the TSC CEO.
“The declining academic standards of Nyakach Girls are related to the new principal. According to a protest letter written to TSC on May 16 by Jumba Yalwala, the presiding clerk of Chavakali Yearly Meeting of Friends Church (Quakers), “She is combative and arrogant in her administration.”
The Friends Church (a group of Quakers) is the school’s sponsor.
The principal is vengeful, unpleasant, and unprofessional in how she handles her administrative tasks, the letter continues. She is considered to have a tendency toward financial irregularity and to abuse school resources.

The principle, according to Yalwala, has a terrible rapport with parents and other stakeholders in the education industry. We as a church don’t want to watch the school fail while we are watching.
Mr. Yalwala stated, “The conclusion of the memo we sent to TSC is that we reject in totality the posting of Ms. Oyungu Violet as principal of Keveye Girls School.”
The new principal has a dubious administrative history, according to Mr. Henry Kemoli, chairman of the Keveye Girls board.
Kemoli stated, “In our thoughtful opinion, she would not serve the best interests of the school as currently planned.”
“We have made tremendous progress both in academics and general school infrastructure development,” he continued, “and should Ms Oyungu take over as principal, that progress would not be in the best interest of the school’s stakeholders.”

“As a responsible board, we want to ensure that the school’s administrative transition is smooth by hiring a principle with the necessary ethics and leadership skills. We are adamantly opposed to Ms. Oyungu being the next principle of Keveye Girls.
The Sabatia MP, Clement Sloya, claimed that TSC changed the school without consulting the local authorities.
“That is why I have refused the posting of the new principal,” he continued, adding, “Keveye Girls is not a dumpsite for unappreciated instructors. We demand a say in the new principal’s selection.
The MP claimed that the kids, faculty, and support personnel are uncomfortable with the new principal.
“As the people’s elected representative, it is my responsibility to protect what is properly ours. When people seem to be assisting us but are actually damaging the school, I have a responsibility to defend it, according to Mr. Sloya.
The Vihiga County TSC director, Loice Murrey, was accused by the MP of acting haughtily when managing the situation. She believes she is superior to everyone in this area. This is the reason she only listens to herself and no one else, the MP claimed
“We won’t allow Ms. Oyungu to become principal at Keveye Girls. Or are they saying that Keveye can only be dumped at her school?
We request that TSC resign from her position with immediate effect and suggest that one of the current deputy principals at Keveye Girls fill in while the problem is being resolved, according to Mr. Sloya.
If TSC doesn’t reverse its judgment, the Sabatia MP threatens to request President William Ruto’s involvement.
Parents will take every precaution to prevent Ms. Oyungu from becoming the new principal, according to Nadebu Caleb, the PTA’s chairwoman.
If the parents don’t want to listen to us, let TSC be ready for the mother of all battles with them. Protests and requesting legal action are just two of the numerous options we have to resolve this, according to Mr. Nadebu
Director of the Vihiga County TSC Murrey declined to comment on the situation.
