Kenya Forest Service Announces Job Opportunities; How to Apply

The 15 billion national tree growth and ecosystem restoration initiative will be supported by the temporary hiring of 4,000 youth on temporary contracts, according to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry.

The ministry announced on Sunday that the Kenya Forest Service will be used to recruit members of the “Green Army” to help with seedling propagation and tree-growing extension activities.

To boost the production of seedlings at KFS tree nurseries around the nation, the Service is looking to hire 4,000 “Green Army” (unskilled Nursery Attendants) on temporary contract terms, according to the job posting from KFS.

The ‘Green Army’ recruits will be assigned to the Service’s 300 tree nurseries across the nation on a one-year contract in the 2023–2024 fiscal year, with the possibility of extension based on successful performance and funding.

According to KFS, “the nursery attendant will be in charge of maintaining seedlings in KFS tree nurseries and reporting to the nursery headman.”

The government’s ambitious goal of reaching a 30% tree cover by 2032 as part of the 15 billion Special Presidential Programme is being accelerated by the hiring.

According to the Regulation of Wages and Conditions of Employment Act’s classification and determination of workstations, successful applicants will receive salaries ranging from Sh8,631 to Sh16,401, KFS stated.

The National Social Security Fund and National Health Insurance Fund coverage for the term of the contract are additional advantages.

The target counties, subcounties, and wards must be the residence of interested applicants, who must be at least 18 years old.

By no later than July 22th, applications must be submitted online at https://recruitment.kenyaforestservice.org.

Soipan Tuya, the cabinet secretary for environment and forestry, stated on Friday that the hiring process would be open and that locals would be given preference.

During her two-day visit to Marsabit county, Tuya stated that the ‘Green Army’ brigades will play a crucial role in the effort to restore the forest and bring damaged forests back under sustainable management of our trees.

She asked groups, individuals, and young people to make it a habit to plant more trees, particularly in deteriorated regions, in order to maintain the environment.

She advised inhabitants to grow fruit trees because they function as both trees and produce, but she also cautioned that the government was not prepared to cede even a fraction of its territory to those who lived close to forests.

She encouraged people who lived close to forests to establish community forest associations to manage the resources, stating that doing so would result in more long-term advantages.
