KCSE students abandoned in insecure areas. Parents lament.

Parents from Baringo County have complained that the government has abandoned KCSE students in insecure areas during this examination period.

The insecurity in Baringo County is caused by inter-communal fights and banditry. Rift Valley Regional Coordinator George Natembeya recently stopped security operations in Kapedo and Tiaty areas.

Parents blamed Mr. Natembeya’s move, stating that together with their children, they have now been exposed to insecurity. They argued that candidates sitting for the KCSE exams in the areas were the most affected.

“We fear for KCSE candidates sitting for their examinations. Many schools are in areas that are prone to insecurity,” one of the parents said.

The parents also reported that unknown people had killed a 60-year old man just two days after Natembeya withdrew security from Kapedo and Tiaty.

In January, the government began security operations in Kapedo and Tiaty following several reported cases of deaths including that of the area police boss.

To curb insecurity, CS Matiang’i had introduced a 6 pm to 6 am curfew to enable security officers to arrest the perpetrators. He also introduced other stringent security measures.
