KCSE exam rehearsals to commence on Thursday

The Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) has announced that the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination rehearsals will commence on Thursday, October 19. As preparations for the Form 4 candidates who are scheduled to take their national exams from October 23 to November 24 are ongoing, the council has provided important dates and details for the upcoming examinations.

In a statement issued on a Wednesday, Knec disclosed that the rehearsal date for both the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and the Kenya Primary School Examinations (KPSEA) is set for Friday, October 27. The actual KCPE and KPSEA examinations will officially begin on Monday, October 30, and conclude on Wednesday, November 1.

Knec is taking proactive measures by deploying 1,700 officers to oversee the administration of these examinations. These officers are not solely from Knec but also from various institutions within the education sector.

Furthermore, the 2023 KCPE examinations are significant as they mark the culmination of the 8-4-4 system in primary schools. A record number of over 3.5 million candidates will participate in these national examinations, with KCPE candidates accounting for the highest number ever recorded in the country.

Additionally, nearly one million candidates will sit for the KCSE exams this year, while 1.4 million are registered for the KCPE exams. Notably, 1.2 million candidates are set to take the inaugural KPSEA.

During a briefing held at the Knec head office at the New Mitihani House, Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang urged the monitoring officers to exhibit professionalism and dedication in ensuring the effective and efficient conduct of the assessments and examinations. He emphasized the importance of motivating the candidates, underscoring that the process is one they can successfully navigate.

The PS also commended Knec for their remarkable work, particularly in the previous year when they transitioned from administering the annual two examinations to an unprecedented five, as the country worked to stabilize the school calendar after disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. This briefing involved the participation of Principal Secretaries from the Ministry of Education, alongside the Council and Executive Management of Knec.
