A KCSE candidate at a secondary school in Ndhiwa sub-county is being helped to sit for her exams after she purportedly became blind minutes before she had her CRE paper on Monday.
Doctors confirmed that the student at Wayaga Mixed Secondary School could not see. The candidate was well on Sunday evening when she was revising for her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam together with her classmates.
She suddenly started complaining of not seeing clearly what was in front of her. Homa Bay County Education Director Fredrick Kiiru said the student arrived in the exam hall on Monday but could not see anything.
“She complained that the condition worsened moments before the exams started,” the education officer said.
School officials took the candidate to the hospital for a checkup where doctors established that her vision was impaired.
Mr. Kiiru stated that his office had to communicate with the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) for advice. A letter from the examination centre and a medical report from the medical expert was sent to KNEC which informed that the student should continue with her exams.
