KCSE 2023 Timetable And Guidelines
On May 9th, 2023, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) released the timetable, instructions, and guidelines for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations. According to KNEC, the exams will take place from October 10th to November 24th, 2023.
Before the exams begin, students will undertake projects in Art and Design, Agriculture, Woodwork, Metalwork, Building Construction, and Computer Studies between January and July 2023.
A nationwide rehearsal will be conducted on October 10th to prepare students for oral, practical, and theoretical subjects.
From October 23rd to October 27th, students will sit exams for French (Oral), German (Oral), Arabic (Oral), Kenya Sign Language (Practical Signing Skills), and Music (Practical).
On October 25th, the Home Science exam (Foods and Nutrition) will take place, with practicals held between October 30th and October 31st.
On November 1st, students will sit for several exams in the morning, including French (Listening Comprehension, Dictation and Creative Writing), Braille, German (Listening Comprehension and Composition), Arabic (Grammar, Reading Comprehension, and Composition), Arabic (Grammar, Reading Comprehension, and Composition) Large print, Kenyan Sign Language (Receptive Skills), and Music.
In the afternoon, students will take French (Reading Comprehension, Grammar, and Functional Writing), French (Reading Comprehension, Grammar, and Functional Writing) Large print, French (Reading Comprehension, Grammar, and Functional Writing) Braille, German (Grammar and Reading Comprehension), German (Grammar and Reading Comp.) Large print, Arabic (Listening Comprehension and Dictation), Kenyan Sign Language (Language Use), and Music (Aural).
On November 2nd, Home Science, Art and Design, Woodwork, Metalwork, Building Construction, Electricity, and Aviation Technology exams will be offered.
In the afternoon, students will take Power Mechanics, Drawing and Design, and Computer Studies. On November 3rd, practical sessions for the exams held on November 2nd will be conducted.
The KCSE exam will officially begin on November 6th across all schools in Kenya when students will sit for Chemistry and English (Functional Skills) papers.

The following day, students will take Mathematics (Alt-A) and English (Comprehension, Literary Appreciation, and Grammar).
On November 8th, students will sit for the Chemistry exam in the morning and English (Creative Composition and Essays based on Set Texts) in the afternoon.
On November 9th, students will take Kiswahili (Lugha and Insha), while the following day will have the Chemistry (Practical) exam.
On November 13th, Mathematics (Alt-B) and Kiswahili (Fasihi) will take place, while on November 14th, there will be Religious Education exams and Biology.
The students will take paper 2 of religious education on November 15th, plus History and Government paper 1. KNEC will offer paper 2 of Biology, and History and Government papers on November 16th. November 17th will be dedicated to Biology practicals.
Students taking Geography will sit for their Paper 1 exam on November 20th, as well as those taking Physics and General Science.
On the morning of November 21st, students will sit for their Paper 1 in Business Studies, and in the afternoon, sit for Agriculture Paper 1. Paper 2 for both subjects will be done on November 23rd.
The 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination will conclude on Friday, November 24, with a Physics (Practical) paper.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) issued strict instructions to the candidates taking the exam. KNEC stated that candidates would receive a paper only in exceptional circumstances if they were over thirty minutes late.
Additionally, KNEC warned candidates not to bring any books, notes, papers, or materials into the examination room, except for the correct question papers and any materials explicitly authorized by KNEC.
KNEC emphasized that any misconduct or disturbance in or near the examination room would be considered an examination irregularity.
Candidates who commit examination irregularities in any paper will have their results for the whole subject canceled.
Such a candidate will not be entitled to a result and will receive result “Y” overall, according to KNEC.
If there is evidence of widespread irregularities in any examination center, KNEC warned that the examination results for the entire center would be canceled.
These strict measures are meant to ensure the integrity of the examination process and to prevent any malpractices that might jeopardize the future of the candidates.
Candidates are advised to adhere to the KNEC guidelines to avoid any unpleasant outcomes. They should arrive at the examination centers early, follow the instructions, and conduct themselves ethically during the examination.
