The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has announced that this year, approximately 2.3 million candidates are expected to participate in the KCPE and KCSE exams.
According to David Njengere, the CEO of the organization, the process of generating examination papers has been completed and will be carried out according to the established timetable.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has published the schedule, instructions, and directives for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) tests.
To prepare students for the oral, practical, and theoretical subjects, a nationwide practice session will occur on October 10th.
Between October 23rd and October 27th, students will undergo examinations for subjects like French (Oral), German (Oral), Arabic (Oral), Kenya Sign Language (Practical Signing Skills), and Music (Practical).
On October 25th, the Home Science exam (Foods and Nutrition) is scheduled, with practicals taking place from October 30th to October 31st.
The morning of November 1st will see students sitting for various exams, including French (Listening Comprehension, dictation, and Creative Writing), Braille, German (Listening Comprehension and Composition), Arabic (Grammar, Reading Comprehension, and Composition), Large print, Kenyan Sign Language (Receptive Skills), and Music.
In the afternoon, the same day, students will take exams such as French (Reading Comprehension, Grammar, and Functional Writing), German (Grammar and Reading Comprehension), Arabic (Listening Comprehension and Dictation), Kenyan Sign Language (Language Use), and Music (Aural).
On November 2nd, exams for subjects like Home Science, Art and Design, Woodwork, Metalwork, Building Construction, Electricity, and Aviation Technology are scheduled.
During the afternoon session of November 2nd, students will participate in Power Mechanics, Drawing and Design, and Computer Studies. Practical sessions for the November 2nd exams will take place on November 3rd.
The official start of the KCSE exam is on November 6th across all schools in Kenya, beginning with the Chemistry and English (Functional Skills) papers.
The following day, students will tackle Mathematics (Alt-A) and English (Comprehension, Literary Appreciation, and Grammar).
On November 8th, the morning will feature the Chemistry exam, followed by the English (Creative Composition and Essays based on Set Texts) exam in the afternoon.
November 9th will be dedicated to Kiswahili (Lugha and Insha), and the subsequent day will see the Chemistry (Practical) exam.
Mathematics (Alt-B) and Kiswahili (Fasihi) exams are scheduled for November 13th, while Religious Education and Biology exams will take place on November 14th.
On November 15th, students will sit for Paper 2 of Religious Education, History and Government Paper 1. Paper 2 for Biology, History, and Government will be conducted on November 16th. Biology practicals are set for November 17th.
For Geography, Physics, and General Science subjects, Paper 1 exams will be held on November 20th. On the morning of November 21st, Business Studies Paper 1 will be administered, followed by Agriculture Paper 1 in the afternoon. Paper 2 for both subjects will take place on November 23rd.
The 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination will conclude on November 24th with a Physics (Practical) paper.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has issued stringent instructions for exam takers, emphasizing that candidates arriving over thirty minutes late will only receive papers under exceptional circumstances.
Candidates are cautioned not to bring any unauthorized materials into the exam room, with KNEC specifying that only approved question papers and materials are allowed.
KNEC has highlighted that any disturbances or misconduct near the examination room will be treated as irregularities.
Examination irregularities in any paper will lead to the cancellation of results for the entire subject.
Candidates involved in widespread irregularities at an examination center could face the cancellation of all results for that center.
These strict measures are in place to maintain the exam’s integrity and prevent any actions that could jeopardize the candidates’ future.
Candidates are advised to adhere to KNEC guidelines, arriving early at exam centers, following instructions, and maintaining ethical behavior during the exams.
Any misconduct might result in result cancellations, impacting their future prospects. Therefore, candidates should approach the KCSE exams seriously and strive for strong performance.
