A dream of a KCPE candidate at Got Rateng’ primary school in Homa Bay County has been shuttered following a gruesome murder on Sunday.
Marry Achieng who was waiting for her KCSE results was defiled, killed, and dumped in a thicket near Waiga water pan in Nyamanji East Sub Location on Sunday.
The minor had been missing from home for the last 6 days after she left home on Monday mid-morning for Ndhuru Dispensary for medical attention but failed to return home.
After inquiring from the dispensary, the father Ojwang was informed that she had been tended to and given medicine only to disappear on her way home.
The family sought her whereabouts in all their relatives’ homes but all was in vain. Her body was later found by her brother who noticed a smell coming from a thicket and went to check.
According to her father, the body and the grass on which the body lay were partly burnt with acid. He is now appealing for help from the state and well-wishers to ensure his family gets justice.
“Her body seems to have been burnt using an acid. It seems the suspects defiled before murdering her,” said the area Assistant chief Charles Gura Odongo.
Mbita Sub County police commander Charles Mwangi said they are following some fundamental leads to ensure the criminals behind the killing are apprehended.
Nominated MCA Sophie Salim urged security officers in the area to enhance measures in curbing crime, noting that the murder has injected fear among girls in the area.
She noted that another girl was killed similarly last year calling for the prosecution of all culprits who committed the heinous act. The pupil’s body was taken to Homa Bay County mortuary for post-mortem.
