Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC), has come up with Development assessment tools that will be used to examine the entry on the behaviour of learners when schools resume. The Development Assessment Tools will be delivered to schools by KNEC
KNEC Acting Chief Executive Officer Mercy Karogo has said that all students in primary schools, both in private e and public, will be assessed first. A recommendation for secondary school students is still underway but it will be unveiled soon.
All learning institutions will be funded through the Ksh1.5 billion aid allocated by the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) in collaboration with the World Bank. The examinations will be administered by school teachers, who will be required to mark and upload the results on the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) website.
KNEC has said that the plan to assess learners will allow teachers to understand the stance of learners who have been staying at home for 6 months since the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Foundational literacy and numeracy will be tested on Grades 1, 2 and 3 Mathematics, Science and Languages will be tested on Grade 4, 5 and 6. Standard eight candidates will be assessed in all subjects.
“Teachers will be able to evaluate the various understanding levels of children in their class and prescribe the best ways of assisting them to recover lost time,” Mercy Karogo announced yesterday on Friday, 8th September.
TEACHERS ASKED TO GET PREPARED FOR RE-OPENING.
Mercy Karogo said this just a few minutes after the Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha instructed teachers to get ready to report back to their schools as the final announcement on school re-opening plans is set to be made clear.
"Teachers can start to prepare to report back to their schools to make them habitable ahead of the students' arrival. At that time, we will have phased re-opening with priority given to exam classes." Professor Magoha announced on Friday. "Technical colleges are likely to re-open soon, " he added.
Professor Magoha urged parents and education stakeholders to waiting for the announcement of schools resumption dates.
