KCPE candidate writes exams in hospital after giving birth
Examinations for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) are being administered in an unusual setting – hospitals where young candidates have given birth. Recently, a 17-year-old KCPE applicant found herself completing her exams at Lodwar County Referral Hospital.
This unexpected situation was confirmed by Joseph Epem, the Director of the hospital. He revealed that the young candidate, a 17-year-old resident of Lodwar Township Ward, had given birth to a healthy child just a few days prior.
As Epem explained, “We have one student, a 17-year-old KCPE candidate who is doing her exams at the maternity wing, this is because the candidate was defiled.” The shocking circumstances surrounding the pregnancy highlight the urgent need to bring the perpetrator to justice. The hospital director emphasized the importance of legal action in reducing the prevalence of underage pregnancies.
