On Saturday, May 20, students from forms 1 to 4 from throughout the nation competed in a mathematics competition at Kapsabet Boys High School in Nandi County.

Examiners scored the papers and unanimously decided that Kapsabet High School form 4 student Kelvin Kemboi had won the competition.

Kemboi will be able to attend any university of his choice in Australia thanks to a scholarship worth Ksh3.5 million.

Oliver Toroitich, a teacher at Kemboi, expressed his pleasure in his pupil in an interview with Kenyans.co.ke, predicting that Kemboi will likely take first place in the country in the 2023 Kenya Certificate for Secondary Education (KCSE).

The fact that Kemboi won the same prize in 2022 while still in Form 3 should not be overlooked. We anticipate such excellence from him,” Oliver said.

Over 4,000 high school pupils from Kenya participated in the competition. The competition’s major goal was to give students a platform to demonstrate their abilities and boost their confidence in arithmetic.

There were two categories in the competition: individual and team. Students have a set of issues to resolve in the specific category within a set period of time.

Prizes were given to the top three pupils in each division. Students in the team category were split into groups of four, and they were given a set of issues to go through as a team.

Prizes were given to the top three teams in each division.

Kemboi from the host School took home the first prize in the individual division. He received a scholarship to attend the university of his choosing in Australia.

The top student in each class received a full year’s worth of school tuition as compensation for winning in other categories. Trophy awards were also given to the top boys’ school, girls’ school, mixed-gender boarding school, and overall best school.

The team from Kapsabet Boys High School, Team A, took first place in the overall competition. They received a monetary reward.

The 2023 mathematics competition at Kapsabet High School gave pupils from all around Kenya the chance to display their abilities and boost their confidence in math.

Grace International Migration sponsored the occasion, which was the 20th iteration of the yearly mathematics competition.

Oliver Toroitich, the head of the mathematics department at Kapsabet High School, was a seasoned educator who promoted student discussion.
