Jürgen Klopp can finally discharge Borussia Dortmund plan at Liverpool that will make Luis Díaz will succeed
Luis Suarez is nearing a return to action for Liverpool after recovering from an injury, and Jürgen Klopp could deploy a 4-2-3-1 formation to accommodate him.
Many still haven’t forgotten about Jürgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund outfit. Before a decade, the German team created waves around Europe, gaining a reputation for exhilarating offensive football, exciting young players, and strong pressing.
Under Klopp, Borussia Dortmund won the Bundesliga twice in a row and reached the Champions League final in 2013. Since those glorious days, Borussia Dortmund has not won their domestic league, despite being one of the most electric teams of the past two decades.
Klopp used a 4-2-3-1 formation when in charge of North Rhine-Westphalia, with Robert Lewandowski up front and Mario Gotze, Marco Reus, and Kevin Großkreutz frequently playing behind him. That was incredibly productive, although Liverpool has utilized 4-3-3 during his tenure.
Since 2016, the Reds have predominantly employed a 4-3-3 formation, with a false nine flanked by two pacy and direct wide threats intent on scoring goals and delivering in the final third.
Liverpool has won several titles over the years, from the Premier League to the Champions League and beyond, but Klopp’s squad composition is shifting.
Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nez, Cody Gakpo, Fábio Carvalho, and Harvey Elliott are already at the 55-year-disposal, old’s and Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino have recently returned to full fitness and resumed team training.
Klopp now has a plethora of attackers to pick from, and it appears Luis Daz may join the mix in the near future based on photographs of him training. Since suffering a significant setback against Arsenal in October, the South American has been out of action, but he appears to be on the mend.
The Colombian international might open the door for Klopp to abandon his preferred 4-3-3 system in favor of a Dortmund-style 4-2-3-1, which includes an additional attacker at the price of a third midfielder, as the season winds down.
Gakpo and Nunez have both played left wing in the previous month, despite Daz’s preference for that position. Klopp will face stiff competition for forward positions upon the return of number 23, thus 4-2-3-1 could be explored.
In such a scenario, the team’s two midfielders would be required to provide a more conservative presence from deep, controlling the middle third and establishing a foothold in the game.
Typically, Klopp’s 4-3-3 midfielders are asked to go from penalty box to penalty box, which may be extremely physically exhausting.
Liverpool’s midfield is elderly and its players have appeared worn out for the majority of the season, which explains why the Reds are ninth in the table and perhaps explains why a more disciplined midfield duo would assist the team at this time.
