Joy For ECDE Teachers As SRC Is Set To Double Their Salary
Mr. Joe Nyutu, who serves as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Education, recently disclosed that discussions are currently taking place over the possibility of doubling the base wage of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers who are employed by county governments, from Ksh7,500 to Ksh15,000.
Mr. Nyutu was extremely critical of the starting remuneration, finding it to be an insult to experts who had completed extensive academic study and had honed their specific talents.

On the other hand, he said that because ECDE education has been decentralized, there is a need for judicial action in order to remedy the current problem.
According to Mr. Nyutu, “collaboration between the Senate, National Assembly, and the Council of Governors is necessary” in order to obtain the “best outcome” possible for Early Childhood Development and Education teachers.
Nyutu stated that they want to also address the issue of delayed salary in light of the fact that certain ECDE teachers are owed up to ten months’ worth of earnings that have not been paid.
In order to speed up the process of regularizing Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) teachers as permanent employees who are eligible for pensions, a committee of the Senate is now in talks with the Council of Governors.
The objective of this plan is to categorize teachers according to the amount of education they have earned. This will make it possible for teachers to get an increasing wage that is in line with the scheme of service that is now in place.
