Intern Teachers Dealt a blow In July Salaries
The newly hired intern instructors will not be eligible for the wage increase that the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced.
Due to the fact that their employment is governed by a contract, TSC interns are presently not eligible for a pay raise.
The commission claims that primary school intern teachers receive a monthly stipend of Sh15,000 and secondary school (including junior secondary school) intern teachers receive a salary of Sh20,000 per month.
Payroll for July has just started to arrive in the hands of teachers and secretaries from the Commission. Third-party deductions including loans, union dues, and insurance payments are also included in the paychecks that are anticipated to be paid out by this Saturday.

The freshly hired and posted primary school teachers were already paid their salaries in May. Some teachers have seen modifications to their allowances, while others have had their payments fall behind.
Beginning with the July payment period, teachers’ base compensation will increase by 7%.

The boost, which will benefit more than 350,000 teachers and secretariat employees, was made possible by the National Treasury’s disbursement of a total of sh 9.1 billion to TSC for the same purpose.
President William Ruto stated that the salary raise for teachers and government employees was created to help workers deal with the current economic crisis when he announced a 7%–10% wage hike.
The proposal to take 1.5% of the entire income for the housing fund was, however, abandoned due to the court’s involvement. Judge Mugure Thande of the High Court rejected the petitioners’ claims after hearing from Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah and other petitioners, and he upheld the orders suspending the Finance Act 2023.
Twelve complaints challenging the Finance Act 2023 that were brought against the tax law will now be heard by a three-judge bench, including High Court Judges David Majanja, Christine Meoli, and Lawrence Mugambi.
