The fire broke out at a dormitory building inside Highway Secondary School last night along Mombasa Road in Nairobi; cause not yet established.
The fire destroyed the top floor of a four-storey building according to witness accounts. The massive flame engulfed the entire building with firefighters at the scene trying to put out the fire.
It is however not clear what caused the fire. No injuries or casualties were reported. Students lost their valuables in the incident.
“The fire was so huge. Even the other side was burning but the firefighters managed. There was a time there was a huge fire.
“I heard noises and people were making hitting sounds. Now they have managed,” stated a neighbour.
Experts are expected at the scene later on to assess the damage as part of investigations into the cause of the fire.
In July 2018, the school was shut down indefinitely following an arson attack incident. Suspected criminals were targeting to burn down a dormitory by setting six mattresses on fire.
At the time, 31 students were taken to the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) after a fire broke out at the school dormitory.
Reports at the point indicated that a majority of the students are being managed for smoke inhalation and soft tissue injuries sustained during the fire.
A quick response by a Kenya Red Cross team is said to have helped in containing the inferno.
