HELB Issues Guidelines for Continuing Students on Loan Application
New loan application criteria for continuing students at universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) were released by the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) on Tuesday, August 1.
The loans board stated in a notice that certain students should apply using the HELB app or USSD Code *642#.
Since the app was improved following the introduction of the new financial model by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, HELB urged the students to make sure that it is updated.
Additionally, students must register using a working phone number and SIM cards that are registered in their names.
“To finish registration, provide your initial name exactly as it appears on your national ID card, the ID number, and a working email address. Select a degree by clicking the loans tab.
“Then click apply on the Undergraduate/Certificate/Diploma second and subsequent loan,” the notice said in part.
Therefore, it was recommended that students study the loan terms before responding to the financial literacy questions.
“To view and check the status of your credit application, choose your preferred loan payment option and click Request Loan.
“To finish the loan application, click submit. You will be notified that your application was successful with a pop-up notification. Additionally, the loan serial number will be shown, according to HELB.
The organisation promised to inform the students about the distribution of maintenance, tuition loans, and other services.
Students who were having trouble with their applications were encouraged to contact the loans board at contactcentre@helh.co.ke.
The deadline for loan applications is September 30.
