HELB Announces Students Scholarships Worth Up to Ksh450k
Students pursuing postgraduate degrees (Master’s or PhD) at nearby public or private universities can now apply for scholarships through the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) webpage.
The loans board declared the size of the scholarship grant for Masters and Ph.D. students as Ksh200,000 and Ksh450,000, respectively, in a statement released on Tuesday, August 15.
For master’s programmes, the scholarship is good for two years, while for doctoral programmes, it is good for three years. A Ksh3,000 non-refundable application fee must be paid by each applicant using the payment button on the portal.
Who Qualifies?
To be eligible, applicants must possess an admissions letter for a full-time or part-time postgraduate programme from an accredited university.
The minimum undergraduate requirement for those interested in these scholarships is Second-Class Honours, Upper Division.
Applicants pursuing STEM IF (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Innovation, and Fisheries) subjects will be given preference for the HELB Student Scholarships.
The first year of study for applicants should start in the 2023–2024 school year.

How to Apply
- After registering, students have access to the HELB Postgraduate Scholarship application form through the Student Portal.
- While registering, fill out the Postgraduate Scholarship Application Form (PGSAF).
- Fill out the application form completely, then download and print the PGSAF.
- Attach all required documents as indicated in the checklist, and get the form signed and stamped by the appropriate authorities.
- Scan the completed PGSA together with any attachments into a single PDF file.
- Send a PDF copy of the scanned document to [email protected].
The deadline for applications is August 31, 2023.
