Has Sonko given up on politics?

It has come as a blow to many supporters of the impeached Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko who while during Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr uncle’s burial he said that he was taking 10 years to break from the political scene.

Nairobi county’s leadership had been taken over by county Assembly Speaker Benard Mutura for 60 days according to the constitution following the impeachment of governor Mike Sonko due to allegations of poor leadership, misconduct, non-compliance to follow law among other charges.

Sonko said that he had withdrawn Kagures name as county deputy nominee who was to be vetted and passed by the county assembly saying that he was allowing Nairobians to go to the ballot and choose a leader of their own rather than forcing a leader whom they had not chosen to them.

He also said that on Monday he was going to withdraw his court case which he had gone to challenge his impeachment saying it was illegal thus giving way for other political leaders who were interested in the seat to vie.

The main political figure who is said to face each other should IEBC proceed to hold by-election is United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party candidate linked to deputy president William Ruto who is faced to face off with either former Dagoretti mp Dennis Waweru or Agnes Kagure from Jubilee should any of them win the party primaries.

ODM, on the other hand, will not be throwing in a candidate as they will be supporting the Jubilee candidate pointed out which comes as a result of the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

It has just been left to see whether Mike Sonko statements are true about his break in the political scene. He has also shown no interest in vying for the Nairobi governorship saying that he was not the only leader and Nairobi was bigger than one person interest.
