In the closing hours of the January transfer window, Hakim Ziyech was brutally denied a loan move to Paris Saint-Germain.

According to sources, Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech might still leave the club in the coming weeks despite his failed loan transfer to Paris Saint-Germain at the eleventh hour. After falling down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, the 29-year-old was generally expected to join the French giants temporarily until the end of the season, but was brutally denied the move at the very end of the January transfer window.

Ziyech was apparently in PSG’s club offices when it became apparent that the necessary paperwork had not been delivered on time, preventing him from joining the French powerhouses despite a signed contract. Ziyech has been permitted by Chelsea to explore his alternatives outside of the transfer window, as reported by 90min. However, there is still a possibility that he will leave the west London club.

According to reports, Ziyech has been given permission to meet with clubs who could still sign him for the duration of the season. Turkey and the United Arab Emirates have already expressed interest. However, it remains to be seen if the Morocco international would be interested in either transfer, as he seeks to fix his immediate future as a top priority.

The majority of transfer windows in Europe are already closed, but teams in certain nations can still sign fresh players, which might provide Ziyech with a lifeline while he remains frozen out at Stamford Bridge. Graham Potter will likely leave him out of Chelsea’s Champions League squad for the knockout rounds later this month in order to create way for the club’s January signings.

However, the Chelsea manager reiterated on Thursday that he fully expects Ziyech to remain dedicated to the club for as long as he remains on their roster, despite his anger at being refused a transfer to PSG in late January.

“He’s back in the country, he trained this morning, it won’t be the first story like this or the last,” said Potter. “He’s a professional player, he understands the situation. He’s committed to us and available for the game against Fulham. He has an important role to play for us for the rest of the season.”

In the aftermath of the transfer deadline, PSG boss Christophe Galtier stated that Chelsea were solely responsible for Ziyech’s failed transfer to France due to their failure to submit the necessary papers on time.

“For various reasons, we could not make it work with the player we targeted,” said Galtier. “I have quality players, the young people will have their chance to play in this second part of the season. Obviously, in a busy schedule, you have to be careful with injuries and fatigue.

“I’m satisfied with the squad we had at the start of the season. Unfortunately, we could have reinforced it following the departure of Pablo [Sarabia]. We could not do it. I believe that the responsibility does not lie with our club. That’s how it is, that’s life, we look ahead.”
