Gov’t to Hire 2,000 Additional TVET Tutors
The government’s commitment to enhancing Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) institutions across the nation is evident as President William Ruto announced the employment of an additional 2,000 instructors during the recent Mashujaa Day celebrations.
This decision is aimed at strengthening the country’s TVET education sector and aligns with the government’s strategy to equip Kenyan youth with practical skills.
Furthermore, President Ruto revealed that an agreement has been reached with the government of China to provide equipment to an additional 70 technical training colleges in Kenya. This initiative seeks to improve access to necessary tools and devices, enabling young individuals to acquire knowledge and skills that will prepare them for future employment opportunities.
Ruto also emphasized his government’s effort to address teacher scarcity by recruiting an impressive 56,000 teachers in the past year alone, marking a historic milestone for the Teachers Service Commission. He expressed his commitment to continue recruiting even larger numbers in the coming years.
This announcement follows recent remarks made by Esther Muoria, the principal secretary of the State Department of Technical Vocational Education and Training, who stated that the ministry is working to ensure that each constituency in Kenya has a TVET institution. She highlighted that, currently, only 52 out of 290 constituencies lack a TVET institution, and construction is ongoing to address this gap.

Muoria also mentioned the government’s plan to establish 15 TVET institutions in the current fiscal year and an additional 15 in the following year. They aim to complete 20 more in the subsequent fiscal year. This proactive approach is part of the ongoing effort to provide access to TVET education across the country.
Additionally, Muoria outlined the ministry’s intention to establish a regional center of the Kenya School of TVETs in each former province. These regional centers will play a crucial role in equipping youth with industry-relevant skills, further emphasizing the government’s commitment to enhancing vocational education in Kenya.
