Student Capitation Reduced By Sh6,952
Last week, there were reports suggesting that the heads of learning institutions were considering increasing fees for all secondary schools starting in January next year. These reports prompted a response from President Ruto’s government, which clarified its stance on the matter.
The government, through the Ministry of Education, announced that there would be no fee increment in schools for the upcoming year until further notice.

However, just a few days after ruling out a fee increase for secondary school education, the government has reduced the funding allocated to schools by Sh 6,952 per student, which means they will now receive only Sh 15,476 per secondary school learner.

This reduction in funding could potentially compel the school heads to proceed with their plans to increase fees. The heads of institutions had raised concerns about inadequate funding and delayed capitation.
With the reduced funding per student, schools may be at risk, which could lead them to raise fees starting from next year, thereby requiring parents to bear a higher financial burden for their children’s education.
