Gov’t Delay on School Capitation Worries School heads & Kuppet
The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has recently accused the national government of taking actions that are negatively impacting schools. In a statement, KUPPET’s Secretary General, Akelo Misori, has highlighted a pressing issue regarding the withholding of school capitation funds by the government. This situation has quietly put school administrators in a difficult position.
Misori emphasized that despite receiving four circulars addressing this matter since September 15, some school principals are reluctant to openly admit that they have not received the much-needed funds from the national treasury. He stressed that the Ministry of Education needs to ensure the timely release of these funds to enable schools to operate smoothly.

These concerns were voiced by Misori during a speech at the union’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Nandi South. He expressed deep worry that the government’s withholding of funds comes at a crucial time when schools are entering an important examination period. Proper preparation for students, including the provision of necessary practical materials, is paramount during this period.
Misori also shed light on the substantial amount of over Sh10 billion that has not reached the school principals, and this significant sum remains unaccounted for. This financial discrepancy is a matter of great concern for KUPPET and calls for immediate attention and resolution from the government to ensure the education system’s stability and effectiveness.
