Government release Sh17 billion capitation for school
The Ministry of Education has announced the release of Sh17.8 billion to cover 2nd term fees for continuing students as well as to settle outstanding bills for Form One students.
Basic Education PS Jwan Julius stated that the funds will be deposited into schools' accounts the following day. Jwan said the money will reach the schools before school opens next week.

Sh15.8 billion will go toward Free Day Secondary School, while Sh2.2 billion will go toward Free Primary Education (FPE).
“We've been talking with relevant agencies and we have been assured that the money will be in schools' account by Friday,” said Jwan.
Schools will reopen on Monday for the second term, which will run from October 11 to December 23.
At the same time, it has been revealed that approximately one million Form One students were fed on meals purchased with money disbursed to cater for other students.
According to Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESHA) national chairman Kahi Indimuli, the government has not released funds to cater for Form One students.
“We need the money because we closed first term without funds based on the number of Form Ones. What was released was based on the other learners,” said Mr Indimuli.
It was discovered that some Form One students' parents did not pay their first term fees, putting additional strain on school budgets.
Jwan stated that the funds distributed to schools now cover all Form One students whose information was captured on the National Education Management Information System (NEMIS).
Indimuli stated that if the funds are not received by Monday, schools will suffer.
He also asked parents to pay fees, noting that they had been reduced by Sh8,000 to lighten their load.
Indimuli stated that it is critical that the government encourages parents to continue paying fees.
"We are aware that they have suffered, and as teachers, we are also parents, and everyone has been impacted. "However, schools must continue to operate."
According to the official, it is not acceptable for parents to send their children to school if they do not have the necessary funds.
