Government Faces Huge Deficit In Delivering Free Education
The Ministry of Education has once again addressed the significant deficit they are currently facing as students transition to higher levels of education. The Ministry is deeply concerned about the staggering deficit of Sh 22 billion required to provide free education to secondary school students throughout the country. According to reports from a reliable source, CS Machogu has indicated that this situation may worsen next year as the number of secondary school students is projected to increase by 240,000. CS Machogu, accompanied by his Principal Secretary Dr. Belio Kipsang, made this information public during their appearance before the National Assembly, where they aimed to address questions regarding capitation and other matters within their jurisdiction. As reported by the same source, CS Machogu revealed that they have a total of 3.9 million students to accommodate with a budget of Sh 65 billion for the current fiscal year. This budget falls short of the required amount, leaving a deficit of Sh 22 billion, as the available funding amounts to only Sh 22,225 per student.
