Gor Mahia Ends Winless Streak with 2-0 Victory Over Homeboyz.
Boniface Omondi and Bryson Wangai struck on either side of halftime as Gor Mahia defeated Kakamega Homeboyz 2-0 in FKF Premier League midweek action at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos County. This win marked a return to form for the reigning champions.
Interim coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno guided Gor Mahia to their first victory in five matches, earning three points in his debut as head coach.
Otieno took over following the sacking of Leonardo Neiva earlier this month. Omondi gave the record champions the lead midway through the first half. Later, in added time, Wangai doubled the advantage after receiving a setup from Gedeon Bendeka.
The win propelled Gor Mahia to eighth place in the league standings with 11 points, 10 behind leaders KCB, who have played three more matches. This marked Gor Mahia’s third win of the season, following two losses and two draws that had threatened their campaign.
Shabana’s Winning Streak and Leopards’ Struggles
Elsewhere, Shabana FC extended their winning streak to three matches with a 2-1 victory over AFC Leopards at Gusii Stadium. The win moved Shabana to seventh place on 12 points, one point ahead of Leopards, who are now winless in five matches. Leopards last won on September 21, defeating Bidco United 1-0.
Bandari Overcomes Sharks at Ukunda Showground
At Ukunda Showground, Bandari FC earned a dominant 2-0 victory over Kariobangi Sharks to climb to third place in the league standings with 16 points, level with second-placed Mara Sugar. Mara Sugar lost 2-1 to Tusker FC at Dandora Stadium.
Bandari’s opening goal came in the first half when Sharks captain Ian Karani scored an own goal under pressure while attempting to defend a Siraj Mohammed free-kick. Defender Brian Otieno almost doubled the lead before halftime but misdirected his header from a William Wadri free-kick.
In the second half, former SS Assad striker Beja Nyamawi replaced Alfred Tanui and made an immediate impact. Seven minutes into the half, Nyamawi capitalized on a one-on-one chance against Sharks goalkeeper Sebastian Wekesa, scoring the second goal. Despite Sharks’ efforts, including Timothy Ekhavi’s close attempt saved by Bandari goalkeeper Bryne Omondi, the Dockers maintained their lead.
Bandari continued to dominate through youngsters William Gitama and Izzadin Ramadhan, leaving no room for a Sharks comeback.
Coaches Reflect on the Match
Bandari coach Ken Odhiambo described the win as a morale booster following their goalless draw against Kakamega Homeboyz in their previous match. He attributed the victory to better execution compared to their earlier missed opportunities.
Sharks coach William Muluyia admitted that his team struggled, partly due to injuries, but credited Bandari for their determination to secure the win.
